We offer multiple facilities for events such as business meetings, small get togethers, weddings, and much more!

Garvey Education Room

Located inside the main museum building, the GARVEY EDUCATION ROOM is available year-round for business meetings, family reunions, club meetings and other receptions. The education room can accommodate about 50 people comfortably seated. The room is air conditioned and heated, is handicapped accessible, has an on-site kitchenette and is located close to restrooms. Perfect for business meetings, there are about ninety chairs and twenty tables available for use, as well as a portable PA system with one lapel mic and one hand-held mic, a podium and a projector and screen.

In addition, the room allows wireless internet access and also a 55" 3D smart TV.  The TV has wireless connectivity and Apple TV to allow for the use of all laptops and computers, tablets, iPads, and other electronic devices.

  • Clean-up and set-up must be done within the designated booking time unless other arrangements are made; oftentimes, time is available during the week prior to the event and the days following an event for set-up and clean-up, but cannot be guaranteed

  • Guests may enjoy complimentary museum admission to tour the exhibits

  • Necessary damage fees, clean-up labor and/or additional hours needed are billed at $100 per hour

  • If tables, chairs and other accommodations are needed, prior notification is required to ensure availability; additional costs may be applied

  • With adequate notfication, museum staff are happy to research and find interesting photos, documentation and other information within the archives of the Thomas County Historical Society collection that are relevant to events; additional costs may be applied

  • For an additional $25, museum staff will set up the room to event specifications and provide water, tea and/or coffee

During Business Hours Rental          $175

Meetings and other events that take place during business hours can be held in the education room for $175. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 1 to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays during the winter months, November 1 through March 31. $50 Deposit is required to book the Garvey Room.

 

After-Hours Rental          $350

Meetings and other events that take place outside normal business hours can be held in the education room for $350. This package allows for no more than two consecutive "after-hours" hours. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 1 to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays during the winter months, November 1 through March 31. $50 Deposit is required to book the Garvey Room

 

**Alcohol is permitted in the Garvey Education Room upon museum approval. To reserve this opportunity, a $200 non-refundable deposit is required to safely secure the booking date; it will go towards the final balance of the room rental fee. The final balance and proof of insurance is due no later than one month prior to the event or the rental contract will be cancelled. Renters who wish to serve alcohol are responsible for providing a certificate of insurance including liquor liability with the Prairie Museum of Art & History named as an additional insured party at a minimum of $1,000,000 for each occurence/$2,000,000 aggregate or have the event catered by a licensed, insured caterer.

Cooper Barn

The largest barn in Kansas and named an 8th Wonder of Kansas Architecture in 2008, the COOPER BARN measures 66 feet wide by 114 feet long and 48 feet high. The loft can accommodate up to 700 people and is perfect for wedding receptions and ceremonies, corporate events and meetings, educational programs and other large-scale occasions. 

The barn features a chair lift for handicap accessibility, a kitchenette for catering needs, and on-site restrooms. 

Additionally, since the barn does not feature air conditioning or heating, it is only available for rent from April 1 through October 31. The barn does include lights and electricity, a beautiful and rustic atmosphere and space for dancing. A permanent stage is big enough to host an altar, a live band or a disc jockey. Additionally, the Prairie Museum of Art & History is pleased to offer free admission to all guests who attend events in the Cooper Barn.

A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required to safely secure a booking date for all events in the Cooper Barn and will go towards the final balance, which is due one month prior to the event. A $500 refundable deposit is also required for a cleaning deposit. This amount will not go towards your final balance and will be refunded once the barn is approved by museum personnel. The following listing is a guideline to help estimate the cost to rent the Cooper Barn or the outdoor grounds of the Prairie Museum of Art & History.

  • The Cooper Barn may not be used by any group for fund-raising purposes

  • Clean-up and set-up is the responsibility of the renter and must be done within the designated booking time unless other arrangements are made; oftentimes, time is available during the week prior to the event and the days following an event for set-up and clean-up, but cannot be guaranteed

  • Smoking, open flames (other than one unity candle) or other sources of fire are not permitted on museum premises

  • Guests of the event can enjoy complimentary museum admission to tour our facilities on the day of the event

  • Necessary damage fees, clean-up labor and/or additional hours needed are billed at $100 per hour after the event

1-DAY RATES

7-Hour Event between 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.         Alcohol is Not Permitted: $700

7-Hour Event between 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.         Alcohol is Permitted: $1,000

12-Hour Event between 7 a.m. - 12 a.m.       Alcohol is Not Permitted: $1,000

12-Hour Event between 7 a.m. - 12 a.m.       Alcohol is Permitted: $1,500

1-day bookings are perfect for family reunions, professional seminars, or other short events where you can be in and out in one day. However, we'd be happy to customize a booking package to suit your individual scheduling needs.

3-DAY RATES

Silver Package

7-Hour Event between 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.         Alcohol is Not Permitted: $1,500

7-Hour Event between 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.         Alcohol is Permitted: $2,000

This package is perfect for a wedding ceremony, early-evening reception or other event that requires additional time for decorating and setting up. Renters who are interested in serving alcohol at their event should contact Prairie Museum's event coordinator for additional requirements and policies.

Gold Package

12-Hour Event between 7 a.m. - 1 a.m.         Alcohol is Not Permitted: $2,000

12-Hour Event between 7 a.m. - 1 a.m.         Alcohol is Permitted: $3,000

This package is perfect for a reception, dance, big celebration, combination-wedding ceremony/receptionor, a multi-day professional workshop other event that requires additional time for decorating and setting up.  Renters who are interested in serving alcohol at their event should contact Prairie Museum's event coordinator for additional requirements and policies.

***$200 deposit is required to book the Cooper Barn. This goes towards your final balance due a 1 month before your event.

****$500 refundable cleaning deposit is required. This does not go towards your final balance, and will be refunded once the barn has been cleaned and approved by proper museum personnel following the event.

Lone Star Church

Handicapped accessible and big enough to seat approximately 100 guests, the LONE STAR CHURCH is the perfect venue for a small, intimate wedding ceremony or other church service. This 1915 charming, white country church has electricity and large ceiling fans but there is no heating or air conditioning.  The Lone Star Church is available for rent April 1 through October 31.

The Prairie Museum is pleased to offer free admission to all guests who attend events in the Lone Star Church.

  • Couples who book their wedding ceremony during business hours in the church receive one complimentary "during business hours" hour for rehearsal
